LIV Golf veteran Sergio Garcia recently said he was "excited" to compete with YouTube star Rick Shiels. The duo competed last year in a friendly match at Garcia's home golf course, Spanish Oaks Golf Club.

In a recent Instagram post uploaded on January 24, Garcia posted a short clip of last year's match with Shiels, captioning it:

"Excited to tee off with you again this season, @rickshielspga 🏌🏻‍♂️#LongLIVGolf"

Commenting on the post, Shiels, who has around 2.9 million subscribers on his YouTube channel said:

"YES SIR! I need that rematch! Ha."

Shiels had lost the first match despite starting with a score of 10-under par.

Garcia's recent Instagram post about Rick Shiels came after the social media influencer joined LIV Golf in its first-ever content creator partnership. Talking about their partnership, Shiels said (via LIV Golf):

"Partnering with LIV Golf provides an incredible opportunity to take my content to the next level. From playing with some of the best golfers in the world to showcasing their courses and teams, I can’t wait to share this journey with my audience. Together, we’re bringing fans closer to the action and showing the world a new side of golf."

Sergio Garcia joined LIV Golf in 2022. He finished 17th in the individual standings in 2023 while having a strong third-place finish in 2024.

A look at the hole-by-hole score of Sergio Garcia and Rick Shiels's first match

In February last year, Sergio Garcia and Rick Shiels competed in an 18-hole challenge at Spanish Oaks Golf Club in Austin, Texas. Shiels started the match with a score of 10-under par while Garcia began at even par.

Despite the advantage, the social media star struggled throughout the round and made several double bogeys. After the final hole, Shiels had a score of +7 as he started at -10, making +17 for his round.

Talking about Garcia as a competitor, Shiels said (via The Golfing Gazette):

"He was a really nice guy but also a competitive match play player. He is the most decorated Ryder Cup player ever and he just had this air of intimidation. He didn’t mean to do it but just this air of intimidation."
