Trump Turnberry and LIV Golf were among the honorees at the 11th edition of the Golf World Awards. The event recognizes achievements in 27 global and other continental and regional categories.
Trump Turnberry, President-elect Donald Trump's flagship golf property in Scotland, was named the World's Best Golf Hotel of 2024. The property was founded in 1906 and has been managed by the Trump Organization since 2014.
LIV Golf, meanwhile, received the Best Event of the Year 2024 award for the Adelaide tournament. The event was held at The Grange Golf Club and attracted more than 94,000 spectators over the three days of competition.
Another Donald Trump property, Trump International Golf Club in Dubai, was recognized as the World's Best Par 3 Golf Course of 2024.
Portugal was the big winner at this edition of the World Golf Awards, with seven honors going to Portuguese facilities. Of particular note was the title of World's Best Golf Course of 2024, which went to Terras de Comporta.
The World Golf Awards are part of the World Travel Awards. It aims to recognize and celebrate "excellence in golf tourism," which, according to the official website, "constitutes a vital segment of the global travel and tourism marketplace".
Other winners at the World Golf Awards
Augusta National Golf Club, home of The Masters Tournament, was recognized as the best golf course in North America in 2024, while The Sagamore Resort in New York was recognized as the best golf hotel in the region. Canada was named the best golf destination.
The Westin Resort Costa Navarino in Greece received the award for best golf hotel in Europe, while Portugal was recognized as the best golf destination on the continent.
Sentosa Golf Club (Serapong Course) was named the best golf course in Asia, while TPC Danzante Bay at Villa del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto (Mexico) received the same award for the Latin American region.
Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez received the Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 for his 42-year career in professional golf. Jimenez began his career in 1982 and continues to play professionally.
The Spaniard did not have a successful beginning to his professional career, as it was not until 1988 that he was able to establish himself as a stable player on the European Tour, and his first victory at that level did not come until 1992. However, from that moment on he became one of the stars of the circuit.
Jimenez won 21 European Tour tournaments between 1992 and 2014, highlights of which include the 2008 BMW PGA Championship and the 2014 Open de España. He participated in 72 editions of the major championships with nine Top 10s and a second place in the 2000 US Open as his best result.
Jimenez currently plays on the PGA Tour Champions, where he has 13 victories, including three Senior major championships.
