Fans on social media have reacted to Tyrrell Hatton winning the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship for the third time in his career. The English golfer, who plays on LIV Golf, won the tournament in 2016, marking his maiden European Tour victory, and then defended the title in 2017.
On Sunday, he again won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, defeating Nicolas Colsaerts by one stroke. The DP World Tour official X (formerly Twitter) account shared a post announcing Hatton's win, writing,
"Tyrrell Hatton wins a record THIRD Alfred Dunhill Links Championship."
Following this, fans' responses in the replies were divided on the golfer. Some questioned why the LIV golfer was allowed to play at the DP World Tour event, while some praised him on his victory.
"Why is he allowed to play in it? Ridiculous," a fan wrote.
Another fan seemed to take a playful jab at the golfer about the tournament format. Players on the Saudi circuit compete in a 54-hole format, and the LIV golfer winning a 72-hole format DP World Tour event was the focus of this fan's comment.
"Bravo!! Yep!! LIV Golfers can play 72 holes," the fan wrote.
At the same time, some fans praised Hatton for his win.
"Hatton is a great golfer! That shot on 17 was pure class. We need to see the best players in the world competing against each other regularly again! It’s time for the divisiveness to end," another fan jotted.
"Great win for @TyrrellHatton absolute legend of a golfer 🏆🏆🏆 winner of the tournament. Absolute scences at St Andrews, so many pga fanboys will be triggered by this @livgolf_league win. And just goes to show all the tours can co-exist," a fan wrote.
Another fan opined on the presence of the Saudi-backed League's players.
"Get rid of these LIV players man they ruining the sport," a fan commented.
