Phil Mickelson and Grant Horvat announced the start of a new collaboration for YouTube on Tuesday (Nov. 26). The two will team up to compete against other celebrities and professional players.
Mickelson and Horvat announced their upcoming collaboration in a video posted on social media. In the video, both players agree to stop playing against each other to team up for the new video series.
So far, they have not revealed which team they will play first. However, in the promotional video, both mention Rory McIlroy as their favorite player and Wesley Bryan as their least favorite.
Phil Mickelson is a regular in these types of collaborations, most notably with Grant Horvat and Bryson DeChambeau. Mickelson has a YouTube channel called "Phil Mickelson and the HyFlyers," but has had limited activity on it.
Grant Horvat is one of the most popular golf YouTubers today. His YouTube channel has more than 916,000 subscribers and he has posted 246 videos featuring stars such as Mickelson, DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Tony Finau and more.
Horvat has also expanded his collaborations to include female players. His channel has featured current World No. 1 Nelly Korda and junior golfer Kai Trump, granddaughter of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
Grant Horvat began his golf career under his father's guidance. Steve Horvat worked as a golf professional and instructor, and played in the PGA Tour of Australasia. Grant played at the junior and collegiate levels, the latter for Palm Beach Atlantic University.
However, Grant decided not to pursue a career as a professional golfer. Shortly after graduating, he turned his full attention to his YouTube channel, which has since expanded to include Instagram and TikTok.
What's next for Phil Mickelson?
The 2024 season ended for Phil Mickelson in September, coinciding with the end of the LIV Golf season. Other players in the league have played Asian Tour and DP World Tour events, but Mickelson has not announced that he will do the same.
As a result, his return to competitive golf will come in February 2025, when the LIV Golf season begins. The league's first event will be held in Riyadh from February 6-8.
The 6-time Major champion has given hints that he is considering retiring as a professional player. In August, he said the following (according to the Palm Beach Post):
"If I'm not able to [improve his game] I'll step aside and let somebody come on in and take the HyFlyers to new levels."
However, Mickelson finished the 2024 season ranked 46th in LIV Golf's individual rankings, which placed him in the so-called "Open Zone". As a result, he did not fall into the group of players who were relegated, as was the case with fellow team captain Bubba Watson.
