This year, Celine Boutier will look to defend her Maybank Championship title. She won the title in a playoff against Jeeno Thitikul. Last year, Boutier scored 21 under 267 to win the Maybank Championship. She fired 70 in the first round, followed by 64 in the second. She scored 69 and 64 in the third and fourth rounds. The golfer earned $450,000 for her victory.
Celine Boutier shares her thoughts on defending the Maybank Championship title
Celine Boutier joined a press conference on October 22 at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club and explained that she felt a bit of added pressure to defend her title. She said ( via ASAP Sports),
“I think it's a little bit of positive emotions coming back and having good memories from last year. Maybe a little bit of added pressure because I want to perform well and defend my title…It's a unique situation. I feel good. I hope I put a solid performance this week and give myself a chance. That's all I can ask for, and see what happens."
Speaking about the golf course and what was memorable for her, she said,
“I think 18 is a great finishing hole, par-5. Then you have to hit a solid drive to give yourself a good chance of reaching the green. Even if you don't reach the green you have a good chance of wedging it close to get a birdie. It's a great finishing hole. I think personally 15 would be a bit more special because it was our last hole and I was able to make a birdie there.”
Boutier will be joined in Kuala Lumpur by 2024 Amundi Evian Championship winner Ayaka Furue, World No. 1 Ruoning Yin, and World No. 2 Lilia Vu. The field will also include Hannah Green, Amy Yang, and Brooke Henderson.
