LPGA Tour professional Jenny Shin took a dig at Rory McIlroy over his reconciliation with his wife, Erica Stoll. She said it was strange to be with a man who was accused of infidelity.
Last month, Rory McIlroy shocked everyone by announcing his separation from Erica. Furthermore, he had also hired the same attorney who represented Tiger Woods during his divorce from Elin Nordegren. However, things took a U-turn in less than a month, as the couple decided to mend their differences.
On Wednesday, June 12, Jenny Shin posted on X, taking a dig at McIlroy. She wrote:
"I can’t imagine being with a man who’s accused of cheating with someone he sees often at his workplace, and the whole world believes it, whether it’s true or not. That’s some strength."
For the uninitiated, McIlroy was rumored to have had an affair with CBS Sports reporter Amanda Balionis. However, it wasn't confirmed by either party.
"We have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning." Rory McIlroy calls off his divorce from Erica Stoll
On Tuesday, June 11, Rory McIlroy announced that he was calling off his divorce proceedings with his wife, Erica Stoll. According to The Guardian, the latest papers submitted in a Florida court indicated the dismissal of the case from both sides.
Speaking to The Guardian, McIlroy said that it was unfortunate that unwarranted rumors were being spread about his personal life. He added that it was stupid to respond to each one of them.
"Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together," he added. "Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning.”
McIlroy and Erica first met in 2012, when she was working for the PGA of America. She helped the Northern Irishman make a tee time during the Ryder Cup that year. At that time, however, he was dating tennis sensation Caroline Wozniacki.
He started dating Stoll after splitting with Wozniacki, and the couple got married in 2017. They became parents to a daughter, Poppy, in 2020.
On the professional front, Rory McIlroy is at Pinehurst No. 2 this week for the US Open 2024. He is looking to win his first major championship in ten years. He has won two titles this season, but his fans will be hoping for the end of a major championship drought soon.
