Ludvig Åberg is set to make his Tour Championship debut this week. With this, he has set a unique record by becoming the first PGA Tour university graduate to qualify for the season-ending championship.
Åberg is playing his first full-fledged season after graduating from the PGA Tour University last year. He topped the university rankings to earn the PGA Tour card last June. He qualified for the Tour Championship after finishing runner-up at the BMW Championship, which moved him to fifth in the FedEx Cup.
Following his T2 finish at Castle Pines, Ludvig Åberg has shed light on making his debut at the Tour Championship.
"I've looked forward to the Playoffs for a long time," he said. "And it's been kind of circled on my calendar, obviously. I think if you'd told me before the year started I'd be 5 going into or whatever it's going to be, I think I would be very happy with that, obviously. Yeah, it's been great."
In less than two years of turning pro, Åberg has won two professional titles and made multiple runner-up finishes, including one at the Masters Tournament this year. He was also part of Europe's Ryder Cup squad that triumphed at Marco Simone Golf Club last year.
Ludvig Åberg is paired with Rory McIlroy for the first round of the Tour Championship. The duo will tee off on Thursday, August 29 at 1:38 p.m. ET.
