World No. 4 Collin Morikawa is going to have a bit of new gear when he returns to the golf course in 2025. The American is partnered with TaylorMade, one of the biggest golf gear brands in the sport, and they showed off some new clubs Morikawa will use in Maui.

Morikawa, like many golfers, will start his year this weekend at the Sentry in Maui. He and Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg, and many others will kickstart the 2025 PGA Tour season, and Morikawa will have new clubs when he does.

The custom-made clubs are ready to go for Thursday (Jan. 2), which is when the American golfer will take a swing for the first time in a PGA Tour tournament since last year's ZOZO Championship.

Morikawa isn't the favorite to win this weekend, but he has strong odds per CBS Sports. Here are some of the top challengers and their chances of victory:

  • Xander Schauffele +550
  • Justin Thomas +900
  • Collin Morikawa +1100
  • Ludvig Aberg +1400
  • Patrick Cantlay +1800
  • Sungjae Im +1800
  • Sahith Theegala +2500
  • Sam Burns +2500
  • Hideki Matsuyama +2500

Scottie Scheffler withdrew because of a hand injury. Morikawa and his new set of clubs will tee off at 2:21 pm EST tomorrow. The Sentry is the first of eight Signature Events on the PGA Tour this year, so the field is stacked with good competition.

Golf insider predicts great outing for Collin Morikawa at the Sentry

Collin Morikawa had a solid year in 2024 despite not winning a single tournament. He rose to No. 4 on the OWGR, and he's poised for more in 2025. According to Bill Bowman of Sporting News, that could begin this weekend in Hawaii.

He noted that there may be a bit of a home-field advantage for Morikawa:

"With plenty of friends and family sure to be in attendance, Morikawa, at +1000 this week (down from +1300 before the Scheffler injury), will look to get back in the winner’s circle."

Bowman pointed out that Morikawa had a splendid year despite not winning, though he fell short of Scottie Scheffler, who won't be among his competition this weekend, by a wide margin:

"Despite not winning in 2024, Morikawa still finished second in the FedEx Cup race…although he was some 3,900 points behind Scheffler. He wound with eight top-10 finishes and two runner-ups last season."

Bowman also noted that Morikawa has never finished worse than a tie for seventh in Maui. He also finished top five last year at the Sentry, so Bowman believes Collin Morikawa is likely to start his 2025 season on the right foot this time.
