Tommy Fleetwood is on the top of the leaderboard after the first two rounds at Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, France. He is tied with Hideki Matsuyama and Xander Schauffele.

Fleetwood was tied at 12th after he carded 67 in the first round at the 2024 Olympics men's golf competition. He scored a splendid 7-under 64 in the second round.

On the front nine, Tommy Fleetwood scored an eagle on the par-5 3rd and three birdies on the 4th, 6th, and 7th holes. On the back nine, he scored three birdies on the 13th, 14th, and 17th holes against a bogey on the 18th.

In the post-round press conference, Fleetwood was asked how he would feel if he ended his career with a gold medal but no Major wins like Colin Montgomerie. The Scottish golfer had 54 professional wins with 31 on the European Tour. However, he failed to win a Major in his career.

Fleetwood said (via ASAP Sports):

"Still got a Gold Medal, right, I kind of look at things -- I try and look at things through the eyes of like Frankie, for instance, my son, at six years old. If I had a Gold Medal, he would always take when I was gone or whatever, and I think what an unbelievably special thing to have."

Tommy Fleetwood, who turned professional in 2010, is yet to win a Major tournament. He has eight top-10 finishes in 37 Major starts. Fleetwood said that he has immense respect for athletes who earn a Gold Medal for their country and understands how special it is. Remaining hopeful of a Major win, he further said:

"So I mean, ideally I would like both but you know, still, a Gold Medal would be something that I would be very proud of."

In the third round on Saturday, August 3, Tommy Fleetwood will tee off with Xander Schauffele and Hideki Matsuyama at 6:39 AM ET.

Tommy Fleetwood has a great record at Le Golf National at the 2024 Olympics

Tommy Fleetwood has an exceptional record at the 2024 Paris Olympics venue. Fleetwood won the 2017 Open de France at Le Golf National by one stroke over Peter Uihlein. At the same venue, he finished with an overall record of 4-1-0 at the 2018 Ryder Cup, earning four points for Team Europe.

Talking about his past performances at the venue, he said (via PGA Tour):

"You're always better off coming to a course where you have good feelings and good things have happened. So I'll definitely draw on those. But again, I have to stand up there tomorrow and hit the golf shots. Nothing that's happened in the past is going to do it for me."

So far this season, Fleetwood has had one win, four top-10 finishes, and 10 top-25 finishes. Here is a look at his performances in the 2024 season so far:
