The PGA Tour has determined that Tiger Woods had the most impact on golf in 2024, not Scottie Scheffler. The legendary golfer appeared in five tournaments and the PNC Championship during the year, but his impact on the sport, in the Tour's eyes, goes beyond how much or how well he plays.

The Player Impact Program seeks to pay out golfers based on how important they are to the Tour. It's the tour's way of rewarding those who've stuck around and helped push the sport forward.

As a result, Tiger Woods took home the top prize for 2024, which was a $10 million bonus. Scheffler, who won nine times (including a Major and a bevy of Signature Events) not counting the Olympics and the Hero World Challenge, earned $8 million.

The perceived snub has the golf community online debating whether this was the right choice by the PGA Tour. Most of them didn't think it was.

"He 'won' the PIP? How, by sitting on his a** in some conference room? What a complete scam. The news coming out of the PGAT just keeps getting worse. They are completely off the rails," one fan complained.
"In the same year, Scottie Scheffler won 9 times including the Masters, Olympics and FedEx Cup," a fan said.

Here are some more reactions from fans:

"Kinda BS," one said.
"What a joke. This is like paying mafia protection money," another lamented.

Rory McIlroy, who won in 2023, took third place on the PIP list this year.

PGA Tour dilutes PIP for Tiger Woods win

Tiger Woods was dubbed the most deserving player to top the PGA Tour's Player Impact Program for 2024. The 82-time winner earned $10 million for his efforts, but that's not what the previous winner earned.

Rory McIlroy was given the top spot in 2023, and he took home $15 million for his win. The prize pool was cut in half to $50 million in 2024. Scottie Scheffler earned $8 million for second and McIlroy got $4.5 million for third.

The overall list was also cut to 10 players from 20 the year before. The rest of the placements were as follows: Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa (all earning $4.5 million), Shane Lowry, Justin Thomas, Tommy Fleetwood, and Wyndham Clark (all earning $3.5 million).

Last year, there was more money given out and it was given to more players. This time, the funds were limited, but so were the total players earning money.
