English golfer Marco Penge was banned by the DP World Tour for betting. According to the circuit, the 26-year-old English golfer placed bets on multiple events. The tour's disciplinary panel placed a three-month ban, with one month suspended for a year, and fined him £2,000.

Following this, Penge shared an apology on social media. The golfer dubbed it ‘all a genuine and honest mistake’ and took ‘full responsibility’ for his mistake. Interestingly, the Englishman’s emotional apology received unwavering support from fans. A day later, the golfer has come out to thank his fans for the positive messages. The suspended golfer also revealed that he plans to spend the next few months with his six-month old son, Enzo.

The golfer made the heartwarming announcement by sharing a picture of him with his child. He signed off by saying he’ll be back.

Marco Penge wrote on X:

“Now everything is out in the open, I can’t explain how much support/positive messages I have recieved! I’m still as happy as ever and I can’t wait to be spending the next few months with this little man! Thank you so much, it means a lot. Much love, I’ll be back!”

It is pertinent to note that Marco Penge announced that he and his partner, Sophie Penge, had a child in June 2024. Seemingly, the suspension of three months has come as a blessing in disguise for the player as it allows him to watch his baby grow older.

Marco Penge issues apology for betting

The DP World Tour placed a suspension on Marco Penge after confirming that he violated the strict regulations in its Integrity Programme. As per the circuit’s rules, ‘no covered person shall either directly or indirectly bet or instruct any other person to bet on the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of any professional or elite amateur golf event anywhere in the world.’

While Penge’s breaches merited a three-month suspension with one month suspended for 12 months pending further breaches of the Programme, the circuit cleared that the golfer never ‘bet on himself.’ It added that the player’s actions had not manipulated the results of an event. The action came just weeks ahead of the 2025 SA Open at the Durban Golf Course.

Following this, the 26-year-old shared an apology on social media accepting his fault.

Marco Penge wrote:

“I had placed some bets on golf from 2022 with an overall stake of £24 and total profit of £250. 68 per cent of the bets I placed were before I took the integrity programme education course in March 2023… I genuinely thought it was ok to bet on golf as long as it wasn’t on myself or the tournament I was competing in.”

Penge signed off by stating that he will ‘never make the same mistake again.’ The Englishman can possibly return to the Tour after February 13, 2025. Notably, the Magical Kenya Open could mark his return as the event will tee off February 20.
