The Army veteran Marcus Plunkett has a chance of becoming the first West Point graduate to receive a PGA Tour card. He is currently competing in the PGA Tour Q-school presented by Korn Ferry and is placed T17 after round three.

According to the rules, only the top 5 and ties will receive a full PGA Tour card, while the next 40 golfers and ties will receive an exempt status through multiple reshuffles of the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour season. Marcus Plunkett reveals how he got into golf

Marcus Plunkett gave an interview after his third round at the PGA Tour Q School. Plunkett revealed how he got into golf and gave a gist of his career in the army.

"I went to West Point, graduated in 2016, and then did five years in the Army," Plunkett said.
"After that, I was the transportation officer, did my first year in Korea, and then transferred units to Colorado Springs at Fort Carson, did a deployment to Afghanistan for six months, and then back to Fort Carson, and got out in May of 21 and been trying to play professional golf since those first four years," the 30-year-old golfer said.

He said he was so preoccupied with being the best leader that golf was not even a thought. But during Covid, he wasn't going to the office, so he just started picking up the sticks and decided to give this a go.

"So I started practicing a lot and then was playing the Fort Carson course Cheyenne Shadows, quite a bit, and I broke the course record out there. And I think that kind of instilled the confidence to think I could give this a go," Plunkett revealed. [0:59 onwards]

Marcus Plunkett is placed T15 after the first three holes and will hope for a top 5 finish to receive a PGA Tour card for 2025.
