Mark Hubbard was forced to take the long way into the 2024 Procore Championship. The 35-year-old golfer was on the verge of not contesting in the $6,000,000 competition after missing the event’s commitment deadline by 23 minutes.

It is pertinent to note that Hubbard is fully exempt on this year’s PGA Tour after finishing No. 67 on last year’s FedExCup. He is also exempt for next year after finishing 69th on this year’s FedExCup, making him immune to all Monday qualifiers. Despite this, the golfer was forced to play the qualifier this week after missing the FedExCup Fall opener’s Friday’s 5 pm ET deadline to register. He cited ‘technical difficulties’ as the reason for the mishap.

The Californian golfer opted to go for the Monday qualifier and came out with a win. The World No.95 player paced the rest of the field with a 7-under 65 at Yolo Fliers Club. He secured the first of four available spots in the Procore Championship field.

Mark Hubbard said on Monday afternoon, as quoted by the PGA TOUR:

“Short answer, I missed the commitment deadline on Friday by about 23 minutes. Had some technical difficulties with my phone; I dropped it in a cold plunge on Thursday, so I didn’t really have it for a while, but at the same time I probably should’ve committed a long time ago.
I was pretty frustrated after Memphis (FedEx St. Jude Championship) and really just needed to check out from golf, and I did that, and it was a good thing for me mentally and physically for my game, but this is one of the things that fell through the cracks unfortunately. So, I’m glad I hopefully took care of business today… It’s a weird situation, but at the end of the day, I can take a lot of positives from it.”

Mark Hubbard claimed he was “pretty down in the dumps” on Friday. However, he felt like he “recovered pretty fast” to compete on Monday. He dubbed the incident a “learning experience” and added he’d avoid it in the future as he felt bad for taking a spot from another player.

Mark Hubbard trolls himself over the Procore Championship qualifying situation

Earlier on Sunday, Hubbard took to his social media to address his mistake. Having forgotten to register for the Procore Championship, the PGA Tour golfer poked fun at himself for ‘accidentally’ missing out on the field.

Mark Hubbard wrote on X:

“I accidentally didn’t register for the @ProcoreChamp so I’m no longer in the field…but I did just break the pop-a-shot record at @BluejackNation so things are going preettttttty well.”

Interestingly, Hubbard noted that he was still traveling to Napa as he had a ‘49ers ticket for Monday night.’ It’s safe to say that the ticket came in handy as the golfer finished his Monday qualifier round by the afternoon.

Having made the field on Monday, Hubbard followed up his earlier tweet with a new one. The golfer poked fun at his situation and dubbed his lateral entry “one way to get out of the PGA TOUR Wednesday pro-am.”

It is pertinent to note that Mark Hubbard went 19-for-19 in cuts made to begin his 2024 PGA Tour season. However, he later missed two cuts in his last four starts. The golfer will be seemingly eyeing a comeback this weekend at the Silverado Resort, after dubbing it one of his favorite tournaments on the circuit.
