“Matchplay is crazy”; “Can’t believe SMASH choked” – LIV Golf fans react to big upsets at the Team Championship quarter-final in Dallas

Fans on social media have reacted to the shocking results of the 2024 LIV Golf Team Championship quarterfinal in Dallas. The final tournament of this season of the Saudi Circuit started with its quarterfinal matches on Friday.

LIV Golf has a total of 13 teams, but the top 3 in the season standings following the individual championship last week automatically qualified for the semifinals of the Team Championship. The remaining 10 teams competed in the quarterfinals. However, the results of the event were shocking for the fans.

Smash GC, ranked fourth in the season standings, lost their match against Iron Heads GC by 1-2. Additionally, Torque GC, who was phenomenal throughout the season and finished in fifth place in the standings, also lost in the quarterfinals against Phil Mickelson's HyFlyers. Meanwhile, Fireballs, Stingers, and 4 Aces registered victories and earned their spots in the semifinals.

LIV Golf Team Championship: Quarterfinal results and Semifinals schedule explored

Following the LIV Golf Chicago event, Crushers GC, Legion XIII, and Ripper GC secured the top 3 spots in the team season standings, earning their places in the semifinals. Meanwhile, 10 teams ranked from 5th to 13th competed in the quarterfinals on Friday, September 20.

The highest-ranked teams had the advantage of choosing their opponents for the quarterfinals, which consisted of three matches between two head-to-head teams. These three matches included two singles matches and one foursome match, with the winner advancing to the semifinals.

Brooks Koepka's Smash GC faced Kevin Na's Iron Heads GC. However, only Koepka won his match against Na, while his team lost the remaining two matches. Iron Heads won the overall match by 2-1.

In the match between Joaquin Niemann's Torque GC and Phil Mickelson's HyFlyers, the Chilean golfer won the singles match for his team, but they lost the other two matches and were eliminated from the Team Championship. Fireballs GC played against Majesticks GC and registered an incredible 3-0 victory. Stinger GC also won their match 3-0 against Cleeks. Meanwhile, Dustin Johnson's 4 Aces secured a 2-1 win against RangeGoats.

Heading into Saturday, September 21, the qualified teams will compete in the semifinals. Here are the matchups for the semifinals of the 2024 LIV Golf Team Championship:
