Matt Fitzpatrick reps favorite English soccer team’s jersey ahead of TGL showdown

Matt Fitzpatrick was one of the eight players in action on Day 1 of the TGL. Before changing into the New York GC's team jersey, he was spotted donning the jersey of his favorite English soccer team.

Fitzpatrick is a nine-time winner on the DP World Tour and the 2022 U.S. Open champion. He is part of the New York Golf Club in the TGL, alongside Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, and Cameron Young. Outside of golf, Fitzpatrick is a devoted fan of Sheffield United and has consistently expressed his love for the English soccer club.

On Tuesday, January 7, TGL shared a video of Matt Fitzpatrick entering the SoFi Center while proudly sporting a Sheffield United jersey.

This isn't the first time Fitzpatrick has expressed his love for Sheffield United in public. A couple of years ago, he entered TPC Scottsdale wearing the English club's jersey on his WM Phoenix Open debut. During that outing, he also gifted some of the team's merchandise to the fans.

Matt Fitzpatrick's New York Golf Club wasn't lucky enough to kick off the season with a win as Bay Golf GC posted a dominant 9-2 win in the TGL opener. New York GC won just one of the nine Triples holes while Bay Golf won five of them. In the singles, Fitzpatrick's team once again collected just one point while Shane Lowry, Wyndham Clark, and Ludvig Åberg earned one point each for the Bay Golf.

Matt Fitzpatrick and Co. will next compete on Tuesday, January 21 vs. Atlanta Drive GC. They still have four matches to go and have ample chances to recover from the defeat.

The next TGL match will take place on Tuesday, January 14 with Jupiter Links competing against Los Angeles Golf Club.
