Matt Fitzpatrick has a hilarious response to Jay Monahan and Yasir Al-Rumayyan playing together

Matt Fitzpatrick has shared his take on the Alfred Dunhill Links pairing list that features PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan. The two, heavily involved in moving the PIF and PGA Tour merger along, will be in the same group.

This has sparked a lot of conversation. Rory McIlroy, for one, said this would be good for golf, and that they might be able to make some progress throughout the day. Fitzpatrick, however, seemed to have a different opinion.

According to journalist Bob Harig on X(formerly Twitter), the English golfer said,

“Yeah, I don't think they are going to decide the future of golf in five hours around Carnoustie. I know Carnoustie is pretty bloody hard. Not much time for talking.”

McIlroy had previously said (via BBC),

“I think it’s a great thing and a good sign that Jay and Yasir are playing together. Obviously, we have quite a big contingent here from LIV playing in the event. What Johann Rupert is trying to do is bring the world of golf back together a bit, or force us all together."

It will be interesting to see if any developments regarding the merger talks emerge from this pairing of big names in the world of golf.

Matt Fitzpatrick slams DP World Tour, PGA Tour partnership

Matt Fitzpatrick had plenty to say about the partnership between the DP World Tour and the PGA Tour. This has allowed players like Robert MacIntyre, Rory McIlroy, and others to be in the field this weekend at the Alfred Dunhill Links tournament.

Fitzpatrick blasted the partnership, saying he thinks the DP World Tour made a mistake. Fitzpatrick said he was "livid" when he found out that PGA players were invited to the BMW PGA Championship, the DP World Tour's premier event. The golfer said that was a "disgrace" to the "flagship event."

Fitzpatrick went on to say that there no European Tour players were invited to the Players Championship, and it was "absurd" that the DP World Tour would do what the PGA Tour didn't.

He added (via Golf Magic),

"Now I'm sat here as now mainly a PGA Tour player nowadays, which people probably say, well, you don't come back and play anyway. Yeah, I understand that, but I think the way of looking at it is, there's not really been left with any option.
"If you want to achieve the things that you want to achieve in the game, you've got to play against the best players. You have to play where the best world ranking points are, and unfortunately with that, the money follows that."

Fitzpatrick did however concede that this was how things had to be for certain players.
