Matt McCarty, a 26-year-old golfer from the United States, won the inaugural edition of the Black Desert Championship, held from October 10 to 13. The PGA Tour rookie had his first PGA Tour victory at Black Desert Resort in his third start. His college teammate Devrath Das was on the bag for him.
The victory saw McCarty jump 29 spots from 76th to 47th on the Official World Golf Rankings. This is his best OWGR ranking since he turned professional in 2021. With this move up the rankings, he surpassed the likes of Jordan Spieth, Thriston Lawrence, Nick Taylor, Si Woo Kim, and Brooks Koepka.
McCarty won $1.35 million of the total $7.5 million given out as prize money at the tournament. He also received 500 FedExCup Fall points and jumped from 232nd to 95th in the standings. He is now fully exempt on the PGA Tour for two years.
Courtesy of the win, he is now also exempt on next year's Sentry, Masters, and the PGA Championship. Further, since he came out on top of the Korn Ferry Tour points list, he has already qualified for next year's Players Championship and the US Open.
Stephan Jaeger finished as runner-up at the Black Desert Championship and jumped 12 spots in the OWGR rankings, from 57th to 45th place. He didn't receive any FedExCup Fall points as he finished 47th in the FedExCup standings for the season. He won a prize money of $817,500.
Lucas Grover tied for third, jumping from 49th to 30th on the Rankings, and took home $442,500 with 162.5 FedExCup Fall points. Kevin Streelman, who also tied for third, jumped from 274th to 197th.
Other notable jumps in rankings after the 2024 Black Desert Championship were made by Maddie Schmid who went from 142nd to 119th, Harris English, 73rd to 67th, Joe Highsmith, 238th to 208th, and Nick Hardy who went from 259th to 238th.
