Matt McCarty won the inaugural edition of the Black Desert Championship in Utah on Sunday (October 13). The 26-year-old grabbed his maiden PGA Tour victory in just his third start on the tour. The golfer earned $1,350,000 from the win, taking his career earnings on the circuit to $1,366,340.

McCarty, who started the year on the Korn Ferry Tour, became the first player since Jason Gore to win thrice on the developmental tour and win on the PGA Tour in the same season. The win has also earned McCarty a spot in the 2025 Masters field. Despite the big perks, the golfer stated that the biggest change the win brings in his life would be in financial terms.

It is pertinent to note that McCarty finished T63 at the Sanderson Farms Championship earlier this month. He had earned $16,340 for his efforts.

Replying to a media query on how the PGA Tour win will change his life, Matt McCarty said at the Black Desert Resort in Ivins, as quoted by ASAP Sports:

“I mean, financially for sure.”

He added:

“I'm just really excited for all the opportunities that come with this and everything. This is what I've wanted to do. To be able to do it this quickly, to be able to play in all these tournaments I'm going to be able to play in coming up is going to be really special, so I am just really looking forward to that.”

Addressing the three wins on the Korn Ferry Tour and the promotion to the PGA Tour, McCarty dubbed it a “crazy last few months” for him.

Apart from the hefty paycheck, Matt McCarty also earned full-exempt status on the PGA Tour through 2026, with spots in 2025 Sentry, Masters and PGA Championship. He also moved to 95th in FedExCup points.

Matt McCarty’s 2024 season so far

Matt McCarty carded a 4-under 67 on Sunday to finish with a 23-under 261 at the 2024 Black Desert Championship. The 26-year-old Arizona native took the win and the $1,350,000 paycheck from the event’s $7,500,000 prize purse.

For the unversed, McCarty had a highly successful season before earning a promotion to the PGA Tour in August. The golfer’s year on the Korn Ferry Tour is highlighted by three tournament victories - the Price Cutter Charity Championship, the Pinnacle Bank Championship, and the Albertsons Boise Open. He earned $180,000 each for the first two wins and $270,000 for the latter.

Notably, McCarty also managed a T2 finish at the Utah Championship and a T3 at the Astara Chile Classic. The now-PGA Tour star posted several top-10 finishes, including T5 finishes at both the Ascendant and the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship.

The in-form golfer earned over $700,000 from the KFT before his instant move to the traditional circuit.
