Matt Wallace wins the first PGA Tour at the 2023 Corales Puntacana Championship

Matt Wallace won the first PGA Tour event of his career at the 2023 Corales Puntacana Championship on Sunday, March 26. The English golfer started the tournament with a birdie on the fourth hole in the opening round. He carded 67 in the first round to finish at a scoring deficit of five.

Despite playing a round of 70 on the third day, he managed to end the last day with a score of 66 and win the trophy.

Matt Wallace started the fourth round with a bogey on the second hole and soon made two consecutive birdies on the third and fourth holes. With four birdies in the last few holes, he dropped his driver after scoring 66 to finish under 19. Wallace registered a one-stroke victory over third-round lead Nicolai Hojgaard.

The 32-year-old Englishman opened up about his victory in the Winner Press Conference and said:

“Self talk was very good today, been working really hard since the Players on it. I realized at the Players out of the 145 shots I hit to miss the cut by one, two of those I spoke to myself well. Two shots for the whole week, so that’s not good enough. That’s not going to get the job done."

He continued:

“Very happy down those last few holes. I knew I could do it and I played great all week, just came out on top."

Tyler Duncan and Sam Stevens finished in third position, while Austin Ekroat secured the fifth position. Wyndham Clark finished in sixth position, followed by Ricky Barnes, who registered seventh place with a score of under 14.
