Max Homa has joined the ongoing debate among golf fans to choose between Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as the greatest golfer of all time. The 33-year-old golfer has won six PGA Tour events in his professional career so far.
On an episode of the podcast, Join The Lobby, Homa was asked if he considered Woods the GOAT of golf.
"There's another guy named Jack Nicklaus," Max Homa said. "So you talk about World Cup, so we have like over the course of a year the PGA Tour has like 46ish tournaments. Each person will play anywhere between 20 and 30, you would never play all of them. I played this year probably like 24 of them."
"But there's four majors a year and those are run by separate organizations but that's a lot of the reason because of Tiger. But that's the way people define like ultimate greatness like the top of the top. Tiger has won 15 of them but Nicklaus has 18," he added. (13:23-13:59)
Homa said that despite Nicklaus having more major wins, he was biased towards Woods. He then talked about Woods' PGA Tour victories and highlighted that he has 82 PGA Tour victories in comparison to Nicklaus' 60s. As per the PGA Tour website, Nicklaus has 73 PGA Tour wins.
Max Homa further noted that Woods' domination was unreal as he won tournaments by a large margin of 15 strokes. Homa then called Nicklaus the "greatest champion ever," but also noted the change in golf dynamics since then. He said:
"And I will say that like you could potentially say that Jack is the greatest champion ever like just using the words because he did win more Majors. But I would argue that the competition has gotten a bit deeper since Tiger Woods made it get deeper because it got more popular." (14:35-14:47)
Jack Nicklaus turned professional in 1961 while Tiger Woods turned professional in 1996. Nicklaus is also considered as one of "The Big Three." As per Celebrity Net Worth, he has a net worth of $400 million.
