Max Homa has added his name to the long list of players who have withdrawn from the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open. Homa withdrew without completing the second round and the reasons for his decision have not been made public.
The news was released by the PGA Tour Communications' X (formerly Twitter) account, which posted the following text:
"Max Homa WD during round two of Farmers Insurance Open"
Homa's withdrawal was announced shortly after the second round was temporarily suspended due to high winds that hit both the North and South courses of Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course, the site of the event.
At the time the round was suspended, Homa had a score of 9 over and was eight shots behind the projected cut line with only three holes to play.
The withdrawals from the Farmers Insurance Open began days before the start of the event when top players like Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele announced that they would not be playing. Scheffler and Schauffele were followed by others like Collin Morikawa, Akshay Bhatia and Will Zalatoris.
This is the first time in his career that Homa has withdrawn from the Farmers Insurance Open. In eight previous starts, he missed the cut four times, but won the 2023 edition and finished in the top-10 (T9) in 2020.
A look at Max Homa's performance at the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open
The 2025 edition of the Farmers Insurance Open was particularly difficult for Homa. During the first round, played on the South Course, he had a score of 6 over in the first five holes after triple bogeying the first, bogeying the 4th and double bogeying the 5th with no birdies.
Homa then made a spectacular chip in for an eagle on the 6th, but could not keep up the momentum. He bogeyed the 8th and parred the next 10 holes to finish the round at 5 over 77.
The second round was played on the North Course and did not go well either. Homa made four bogeys on the front nine and had no birdies when the suspension of the round was announced while playing the 15th hole.
Homa's first-round score of 77 is not his worst round at Torrey Pines. In the second round of the 2014 Farmers Insurance Open, he shot a 78, his poorest round at the event. His best round came on the third day of the 2023 edition, when he carded a 66 on his way to a title win.
Homa also played at Torrey Pines during the 2021 edition of the US Open, missing the cut with rounds of 76 and 73.
