Tiger Woods took a playful jibe at John Daly at the 2024 PNC Championship. Both Woods and Daly are competing in the tournament with their respective sons. The tournament is scheduled from Saturday, December 21 to Sunday, December 22 at Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.
At the Pro-Am competition ahead of the main tournament, Woods spotted the two-time Major Champion Daly and made a playful jibe. Woods, dressed in Sun Day Red, said:
"Meet you in the gym"
He then walked towards Daly and they both shared a hug. Responding to Woods, Daly joked:
"At least gym is a three-letter word. Yours is g-y-m. Mine is b-a-r."
John Daly is known for his drinking habits. He talked about his drinking habits in a Break 50 challenge with Bryson DeChambeau earlier this year. He said that he had "slowed down" after consuming 20 cocktails since 9 a.m. He's competing in the tournament with his 21-year-old son John Daly II.
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods will play with his son Charlie. In the pre-tournament press conference, Woods was asked what his conversations with Charlie were like and if they had discussed handling expectations with a famous last name. The 15-time Major champion said (via ASAP Sports):
"Yeah, I mean, I just am always reminding him, just be you. Charlie is Charlie. Yes, he's my son. He's going to have the last name and he's going to be part of the sport. But I just want him to be himself and just be your own person. That's what we will always focus on. I will always encourage it, for him to carve his own name, carve his own path and have his own journey."
The duo will be making their fifth appearance at the tournament. They tied for fifth in the 2023 PNC Championship. They will tee off at 10:44 a.m. ET with Justin Leonard and his son Luke Leonard.
Tiger Woods praises Scottie Scheffler's consistency after a remarkable year
Scottie Scheffler has had a remarkable 2024 calender year with nine wins including seven on the PGA Tour. He also won the golf medal at the Paris Olympics in the men's golf event and emerged victorious at the Hero World Challenge. His achievements have been compared a lot with Tiger Woods for having a phenomenal year.
In the pre-tournament press conference at PNC Championship, Woods was asked what had impressed him about Scheffler and what he had observed. He said (via ASAP Sports):
"I think his consistency over the course of the last couple years. I mean, yes, as I said in the Bahamas, he moves around a lot in his swing, but you watch that ball flight, it doesn't really do a whole lot. He has amazing feel for hitting the ball the right number, and that's just something that is innate."
Woods also had a remarkable 2000 season in which he won nine PGA Tour events, including three majors with 16 top-10s in 21 starts.
