LIV Golf finally hosted its first tournament of 2023. The event successfully concluded on February 26 in Mayakoba. However, what garnered people's attention was the host David Feherty proffered about LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman.

The announcer boosted the Australian golfer by saying:

"He changed the game, that man did. Back in the 80s and 90s, probably the most recognized athlete on the planet."

Geoff Shackelford tweeted about it saying:

"Catching up on the LIV Golf league broadcast (no spoilers!) against my doctor’s orders. I was rewarded with Feherty saying Greg Norman changed the game and was probably the most recognizable athlete on the planet in the 80s and 90s. Gotta feed the Commishes ego!"

Fans seemed uninspired by the notion and expressed their opinion, highlighting the legacy of Mike Tyson and Michael Jordan. They wrote:

"Mike Tyson was the most recognized athlete of the planet in that era. Also the baddest man on the planet at the time."
"We go to Michael Jordan for reaction…"
"He was the most recognizable athlete in the world on April 11, 1996."
"Tell David that Michael Jordan would like a word."
"So Greg Norman was more recognizable than Michael Jordan? Got it. If LIV wants to be taken seriously, maybe start by toning down the propaganda."
