Michael Kim is scheduled to play in the ISCO Championship starting this Thursday, July 11, at Keene Trace Golf Club in Kentucky. However, Kim's participation is in jeopardy due to an injury.
Kim himself reported his situation via his X account and posted the following text:
"Full transparency… I tweaked my upper back/neck and could only putt and chip today. Got some treatment done on it and will have to see how it feels tomorrow… hopefully body will cooperate and heal up quickly."
Michael Kim is very active on X, where he posts both golf tips and insights on life on the PGA Tour. His account currently (as of July 2024) has over 121,800 followers.
The ISCO Championship is a PGA Tour event that will be played at the same time as the Genesis Scottish Open in 2024. Until the 2023 season, it was known as the Barbasol Championship and was played on the same weekend as The Open Championship.
The tournament is played at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. It is a 7,328 yard, par 72 course.
The prize money for the ISCO Championship is $4 million and is sanctioned by the DP World Tour. The field consists of players from both tours who did not qualify for the Scottish Open.
Michael Kim's 2024 Season at a Glance
Michael Kim has played 19 tournaments in the 2024 season, making 11 cuts. His best result so far is a T6 at The American Express, which is also his only top 10 finish so far this year.
However, Michael Kim has five other top 25 finishes:
- Puerto Rico Open (T23)
- Corales Puntacana Championship (T14)
- Zurich Classic of New Orleans (T11)
- Myrtle Beach Classic (T20)
- RBC Canadian Open (T14)
Kim arrives in Kentucky after missing the cut at the John Deere Classic last week, an event he won in 2018.
That victory at TPC Deere Run is Kim's only one on the PGA Tour (he joined the tour in 2016). His career includes 215 events at this level, with 98 cuts and 8 top 10s. His career earnings exceed $6.5 million.
Kim is currently ranked 129th in the world and 109th in the FedEx Cup rankings. If he does not finish in the top 70 in the FedEx Cup rankings, he will be eliminated from the playoffs and will have to play in the FedEx Cup Fall (a series of tournaments played between September and December).
Kim would need to finish in the top 150 in the FedEx Cup Fall to maintain his PGA Tour membership for the 2025 season, either as a full member or with a special temporary membership.
If he wins a tournament from now to the end of the season, he will get to keep the card for two seasons.
