The final teams for the 2024 Presidents Cup have been announced. Mike Weir and Jim Furyk announced their six captain's picks on September 3, and some notable names were left out.
The likes of Justin Thomas and Rickie Fowler failed to make the US Team, while Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor did not make the International Team. Taylor, in particular, was one of the favorites to make the team. He won the 2024 WM Phoenix Open and also made it into the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Leaving him out of the team was seemingly a hard choice for Mike Weir, who got emotional while addressing the media. Speaking about the players who didn't make the team, Weir said after the team announcement (via the PGA Tour):
"I can't tell you how tough those calls were. Those guys, I respect those guys, I love those guys. They're like brothers. You know, they're Canadians. The toughest part of being a captain was those calls. So I have a lot of respect for them and even have more respect for them now, the way they handled it. So that's what I'll say about it."
The Presidents Cup will be held from September 24 to 29 at The Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
