Minjee Lee and Hannah Green have returned to their home country for the Australian Open but will have to tee off on Thursday, November 28, without getting a chance to practice on the Melbourne Sandbelt courses.
The Australian Open will be held from Thursday, November 28, to Sunday, December 1, at Kingston Heath and Victoria Golf Course. Both Lee and Green are aiming to become the first Australian winners of the event in a decade.
Having just competed in the LPGA Tour season finale, the CME Group Tour Championship, the duo arrived late from the U.S., only to have their hopes of practicing dashed by storms on Wednesday. Lee admitted that she often feels extra pressure competing in the Australian Open as it is her national title.
"But sometimes it does work in my favor and sometimes it doesn't," she said as per Fox Sports. "And I think more so than not, it has not worked in my favor. So the last few years I’ve just kind of come in with a little lower expectation and just try to have fun and actually really embrace every moment on the golf course."
"We always get a really lovely crowd and good crowd, so just try and give them great memories. And last year I was close but hopefully had to get lot closer this year," she added.
Minjee Lee had a challenging season, going winless and slipping to 17th in the Rolex Women's Golf Rankings. In contrast, Hannah Green enjoyed one of the best years of her career, securing three LPGA Tour victories and earning the Greg Norman Medal as Australia’s best golfer of the year.
During the pre-event press conference, Green expressed confidence in her chances of becoming the first Australian golfer in a decade to win the nation's premier event.
"I think my form coming into an Australian Open is the best it’s ever been," Green said. "Obviously arriving on a Wednesday is not ideally how I would start my week, but who knows, because I haven’t had much time to think about the possibility of winning an Australian Open, it might not be a bad thing."
Karrie Webb in 2014 was the last Australian to do this. Notably, she has won here five times, the most by any player.
When will Hannah Green and Minjee Lee tee off at the Australian Open?
