The 2023 Masters was suspended after the second round due to heavy rainfall. Fans were worried that the tournament would push for the finale on Monday because of foul weather. However, neither rain nor cold or thunderstorms could stop the game from concluding the tournament this weekend, as per Augusta's officials.
An Augusta crew member confessed while talking with Golf.com that officials are confident the SubAir system will allow the Masters to wrap up on Sunday. The game will continue through the weekend.
While speaking with Golf.com, the crew member said:
“The bottom line is that where two to four inches of rain in a 24-hour period would create havoc at another tournament, at the Masters, it barely causes a shrug."
The Masters' second round was suspended on Friday, April 7. Brooks Koepka extended his lead after the second round but many golfers are yet to complete their game.
"This just seems highly unlikely" - Fans doubt The Masters finish on Sunday
Although Augusta officials claimed the Masters will be completed on Sunday, fans still doubt the weekend finish.
Nuclr Golf posted about the Masters' unlikely finish on Monday on their Twitter. Fans jumped into the comments section of the post to write:
"This just seems highly unlikely. Isn’t it supposed to rain all day tomorrow?"
"Dammit! I needed a reason to call in Monday!"
"No chance."
"Ya but the sub air doesn't take lightning out of the sky."
"Hope he’s right but don’t count on it. Won’t start third round til early afternoon. Maybe off both tees? Gonna be a long day for the guys and addtl help tomorrow. Have you seen the forecast for tomorrow?"
"You better believe that tree falling is an element they didn’t have on their mind. Drying out the fairways is one thing, the area where patrons are won’t be dried out. Another inch brings out the risk of trees coming down. Which became a big talking point today. Wind matters too."
