Fans on social media have reacted to ex-Ryder Cup captains' opinions about the US team getting paid to compete in the biennial tournament. Earlier this year, a report surfaced on the internet about the US Ryder Cup players getting around $40,000 each to play in the team event.

Sports Illustrated recently reported that the doyen of former US Ryder Cup captains sent a letter to the PGA of America, outlining their plans to pay the players. The captains stated they didn't mind the payments as long as they went for charitable causes.

Fans jumped to the comments section to talk about the money involved in the game.

"Money is ruining the game," a fan wrote.
"I love the Ryder Cup but it’s not like these players are serving their country. Let’s pay’em and make it PGA vs LIV," another fan said.

Several other fans reacted to it.

"So the old men should make money off the rider cup but not the players. So dumb," another fan commented.
"These days everyone wants to get paid. From cashiers for tips to golfers representing their countries," one more fan wrote.

Scottie Scheffler opens up about US Ryder Cup players' payment

American golfer Scottie Scheffler also spoke about the Ryder Cup players getting paid for playing in the biennial tournament during the 2024 Hero World Challenge. The World No. 1 shared his opinion, saying (via SI):

“All of us on the American side are more than willing to play in the Ryder Cup for free. We’ve been playing in the Ryder Cup for free for a long time. I don’t think there’s any problem with guys getting paid to play in the Ryder Cup. I don’t think it takes away from the competition at all."

Scottie Scheffler has recently competed at the Hero World Challenge, which concluded on December 7. He defended his title and clinched the ninth win of the year. The American golfer had an incredible season playing on the PGA Tour in 2024 and recorded some impressive finishes. He won the second Major of his career at the Masters in 2024.
