Pinehurst No. 2 has a popular tradition that they continued at the US Open too. The tradition was also confirmed by American professional stock car racing driver Jesse Love Jr. on social media.

Jesse Love Jr. currently drives the No. 2 Chevrolet Camaro for Richard Childress Racing. A few years ago, he became the youngest NASCAR champion in history by winning a sanctioned event at the age of 15 years and 5 months.

At Pinehurst No. 2, if players make a 2 on the course, they receive a deuce coin as a memento. Love Jr. shared a picture of a deuce coin on X, confirming the tradition.

The deuce coin is a metal coin with '2 on 2, I'll drink on that' inscribed on it. Many players in the US Open 2024 have received this coin for making a two. The likes of Patrick Cantlay, Ludvig Aber, Rickie Fowler, Collin Morikawa, and Frederik Kjettrup were among the lucky ones to receive this beautiful souvenir on Thursday, June 13. Morikawa received two for making two 2s in the first round.

How many US Opens has Pinehurst No. 2 hosted?

This is the fourth time Pinehurst has hosted the US Open. The first time the US Open was played at this venue was in 1999, when Payne Stewart beat Phil Mickelson by one shot to win the event for the second time.

The US Open returned to Pinehurst in 2005 when Michael Campbell registered a two-shot win over Tiger Woods. Nine years later, Martin Kaymer emerged victorious here after a whopping eight-shot win over Erik Compton and Rickie Fowler.

On Sunday, June 16, fans will witness the fourth winner at the iconic venue of Pinehurst No. 2. As of now, Bryson DeChambeau holds a three-shot lead after 54 holes. He fired a 3-under 67 in the third round, and another good round might earn him his second Major championship.

Matthieu Pavon, Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay share the second spot at 4-under. Ludvig Aberg and Hideki Matsuyama are tied for fifth, five strokes back. Tyrrell Hatton and Tony Finau share the seventh spot at 1-under.

The final round at Pinehurst will begin at 7:30 am ET. Seonghyeon Kim and Gunnar Broin (a) will be the first pair to begin from the first tee. DeChambeau and Pavon will tee off at 2:21 pm ET as the final pair to begin their fourth round.
