NBA game outperforms Tiger Woods' TGL debut despite the simulator golf event garnering 1M viewers: Reports

NBA game between Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers has outperformed Tiger Woods' TGL debut in viewership, according to Sports Business Journal reporter Austin Karp. The Pacers-Cavaliers game garnered 956k viewers on TNT and another 77k on truTV, totaling 1.033 million viewers.

The second TGL match between Jupiter Links Golf Club and Los Angeles Golf Club gained an average audience of 1.005 million viewers on ESPN. The viewership numbers reached 919k viewers in the first match while the second match numbers saw an increase of nine percent.

In the NBA game, the Pacers defeated the Cavaliers 127-117 whereas Woods' team Jupiter Links was routed by 12-1 in the match. The second TGL match's broadcast started with 775,000 viewers at 7 pm ET on ESPN.

The broadcast maintained more than one million viewers from 7:45 to 9:00 pm ET and the peak membership was seen between 8:30 and 8:45 p.m. equalling 1.13 million viewers, as per Sports Business Journal.

TGL, founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, kicked off last week. This week, Woods competed in a TGL match for the first time, representing his team Jupiter Links Golf Club.

The third TGL match will be held on January 21 at 7 p.m. EST between New York Golf Club and Atlanta Drive Golf Club and will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN+. Woods' team Jupiter Links Golf Club's next match will be against Boston Common Golf on January 27 at 6:30 pm EST.


Who won the second TGL match ft. Tiger Woods?

The second TGL match was held between Jupiter Links Golf Club (Tiger Woods, Kevin Kisner, Max Homa) and Los Angeles Golf Club (Justin Rose, Sahith Theegala, Collin Morikawa) on Tuesday, January 14.

As per the format, the 15-hole match included the first nine holes in 'Triples' format followed by the next six holes in 'Singles'. The first hole was tied, however, Los Angeles went ballistic and won the next three consecutive holes. Jupiter's first and only win came on the sixth hole.

Los Angeles finished the Triples format on a high after winning the eighth and ninth holes. It continued its momentum winning four of six holes in the Singles format in which Morikawa won both his holes.
