Fans on social media have reacted to Patrick Reed rejecting the idea of getting paid to play at the Ryder Cup. The biennial tournament is one of the most prestigious golf team events in the history of the game. It features two teams, the USA and Europe. However, the tournament does not offer any prize money for the players to play in it.

Nonetheless, as per a recent report, PGA of America has agreed to pay around $400,000 per player for the Ryder Cup in 2025, as reported by Golf Monthly. Recently, LIV golfer Patrick Reed shared his opinion on the payment to play at the Ryder Cup and stated the tournament is "much more than getting paid."

Nuclr Golf shared Reed's comment on its X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:

"LIV Golfer Patrick Reed voices a strong opinion on the Team USA Ryder Cup payment situation: “That tournament is so much more than getting paid. We don't need money to drive us to go play the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup or Olympics.”

Fans in the comment section opened up about the American golfer's opinion and took a jibe at him for joining LIV Golf, which offers players huge signing amounts.

"Needed money when he went to LIV," a fan wrote.
"Money took you away from it pretty damn quick," another fan added.

Meanwhile, some other fans commented on the lack of chances of him playing at the prestigious event.

"Coming from a guy who will probably never see one of those team events again seems like an easy shot to take on the Americans," one more fan commented.
"who cares , he didnt getting on any of those teams anyway," a fan wrote.

"None of us really care" - Patrick Reed on Ryder Cup payments

In the interview with Gulf News, Patrick Reed discussed the Ryder Cup payments and stated that when he played the tournament over the years, he only cared about winning the event. He said:

"With having six picks, if you finish inside the top 12 and the captain decides to skip over you and pick someone else, not only did you not get to play, but you also just lost $400k. So to me, I feel like it's a pretty sticky kind of situation. In the past, when I was part of Ryder Cups, none of the players or caddies were ever sitting there and talking about whether we got paid or not. None of us could really care.
“All we cared about was playing the Ryder Cup, representing your country, going out and playing against Europe, and hopefully bringing the cup home or keeping the cup," he added.

Patrick Reed has played for Team USA at the Ryder Cup on several occ He holds an impressive record of 3-0 in singles in three appearances at the event, while his overall score is 7-3-2 at the Ryder Cup.
