Nelly Korda had the internet in splits when she pulled off a hilarious antic at the recently concluded AIG Women's Open. It was a playful move to show the brutal weather conditions of St. Andrews Golf Club, Scotland.

The weather in Scotland was an enduring test for all the golfers, as the conditions grew windy, frigid, and rainy. When Nelly Korda lined up for her tee shot, she was dressed in a neck warmer and a black cap, an obvious choice for the bitter cold. However, just before she hit the shot, she pulled down her cap in an amusing display of humor. Her eyes were completely covered and she probably couldn't see anything with the cap pulled down.

The biting weather had slowed down the pace of play. Several delays made the golfers wait, the temperatures dropped down, and the winds went up to 40 mph. But Korda accepted the biting conditions and tried to adapt. According to Golf Digest, she said:

"I warmed up in the rain this morning. Yesterday it was just brutally windy. Then today rained until probably my second or third hole (she started on No. 10). It was pretty calm the front nine, and then once we got to the 18th and the first it really started to get pumping. I didn't really take advantage of the calmer conditions on my front nine, the back nine. But I played some really solid golf and I'm happy with that,"

The LPGA was quick to post Korda's antics on social media with the caption. "What's Nelly Korda thinking about?". The commentators can be heard at the end of the clip saying:

"She is really not interested in watching, is she?"

Golf fans from around the world joined in and had funny answers to the question posed by the LPGA on what Korda would be thinking about. Fans had many answers, from a hot bath to her nose being cold.

"A hot bath"
"Hot coffee. maybe a pizza," one said.
"Getting off the course as soon as she can", added another
"She’s invisioning her next shot", one fan added
"Sunshine and a warm beach", another said given the horrible weather.
"My nose is cold", a fan had a humourous response.

Certainly, fans empathized with her in the harsh weather conditions. Some others had frustrating reactions regarding the climate and the resulting slow pace of play.

"She’s defo thinking almost 2hrs to play 5 holes is absolutely ridiculous ." one fan wrote.
"Slow play" another added.
"A 20 minute wait on the 5th tee? It’s gotta stop. I get the weather and the course design don’t help but ya’ll gotta fix this if you want to grow the game." a fan expressed their irritation.

One fan wondered why the LPGA wasn't arranging tournaments in warmer conditions.

"Why don’t they play there when it’s warmer?Pga plays the OPEN IN July." one fan wondered
"The pace of play is brutal" another said.

The AIG Women's Open was a little frustrating for the viewers as well, with the slow pace of play and the long wait times due to weather delays.

"I’m going to mess up," - Nelly Korda

At the AIG Women's Open, Nelly Korda not only faced biting conditions but also some tough competition in the form of Olympic champion Lydia Ko, defending champion Lilia Vu, South Korean golfer Shin Ji-yai and Chinese golfer Yin Ruoning amongst others.

Although Korda had managed to put up decent scores, she cracked during the third round, with three bogeys and then a double bogey. She salvaged her collapse with a third round-75 and a birdie but remained two shots behind then leader, Shin. On Sunday it seemed like the World No. 1 was on a drive for redemption as she hit four birdies. She even secured a two-shot lead on the 14th. However, a double bogey broke her run.

"I had 58-degree and it just shot on me. The wedge shot that I had over the green was kind of sitting a little bit in a hole with some of the — whatever you call it, the ‘hay’ or whatever you call it behind it. I just can’t catch it cleanly and then obviously didn’t make the putt for bogey,"

Further poor wedge shots around the green followed by a bogey turned her collapse into a freefall. Nelly Korda eventually crashed out and placed T2. Lydia Ko of New Zealand took home the title of the AIG Women's Open ending her eight-year major tournament title drought.

In the post-tournament interview, she talked about her performance:

"Listen, it’s golf. I’m going to mess up and unfortunately, I messed up over the weekend twice in two penalizing ways coming down the stretch. Theoretically, that’s what kind of cost me the tournament.I played solid. I even fought after that. I’m going to take that into the next coming events,"

Despite her campaign at the Old Course not going as expected, Nelly Korda was satisfied with her play.

"Obviously in hindsight, I played really well this week. And hopefully that is going to be trending in the right direction again,"

Even though Nelly Korda didn't get to go home with the trophy, she did receive a handsome $594,759 as her T2 place share.
