Right now, Nelly Korda is the top-ranked women's golfer in the world. She also just concluded a seven-win season, putting her 2024 among the best years in the LPGA Tour.
Korda has a strong claim to being the best golfer on the tour right now, and one golf analyst believes there's one small thing she does that sets her apart. Keely Levins, a Golf Digest analyst, narrated a video of Korda's swing and said:
"I always find it really interesting to see how much pros care about the tiny little details in their golf swings. Here's one of the best golf swings in the game right now. Nelly Korda has got this beautiful, flowing, rhythmic move and she hits these towering high draws."
The analyst then stopped to zoom in to look closer at her swing:
"Right before she starts her swing, she makes this tiny, little move that almost looks like a waggle. Really, it's a takeaway check. She's practicing the first few inches of her swing to make sure the clubhead tracks back behind the ball."
He noted that Korda does this before every single shot she hits, whether it's on the driving range or in a tournament round. He also pointed out how Korda always records this to make sure she does it and does it right every single time.
Levins said that this single, small thing is what gets her swing moving in the right direction. There are a lot of other moving parts, but doing this consistently has paved the way for Nelly Korda to be so good.
Amateurs model their swings after Nelly Korda
Nelly Korda has the attention of the amateur golfing world. Her swing has helped lead her to the peak of the LPGA Tour, and so many young players have tried to adopt it for themselves or replicate her in other ways to try and become great.
Scarlett Schremmer said (via Golf Digest):
“All of my golf swing, I feel like has been modeled after her swing. I think she does a really good job of staying in the present moment. She really preaches how she does a good job just taking it one shot at a time. And that's something that I've appreciated for a long time."
Lucy Cook said:
“I looked down the driving range and saw her with all the people that help her around her and then you see all the media people and you see that it's still not really phasing her, it doesn't bother her. She's just doing her practice just like all of us were. She's still finding a way to practice.”
Yu Bai said she always tries to "swing it like Nelly Korda," adding that her swing is perfect and that she visualizes the swing in order to reset herself and get her own swing in better shape.
