Nelly Korda sent support to fellow LPGA Tour player Sophia Popov as she made her debut as an on-course announcer during the 2024 CME Group Tour Championship. The German golfer interviewed several of the golfers on the greens, including LPGA Tour star Nelly Korda.
Following the end of the tournament, Popov shared a post about her experience on Instagram. Korda shared her support for Popov as she shared Popov's post to her Instagram stories. The World No. 1 did not write anything in the caption as she shared Sophia Popov's post.
Korda had also shared her support in the comments on the original post.
Sophia Popov was elated with her experience and thanked golf commentator Chantel McCabe in the post. Speaking about her experience as an announcer, Popov wrote,
"First week as an on course announcer ✅ (and no, I’m not retiring 😂). What a vibe! Had the best time commentating alongside super new-mom @chantelmccabe and the whole crew at espn+. Looking forward to the repeat hopefully soon"
Nelly Korda commented on the post, saying,
"Love youuuuuu❤️"
Meanwhile, in 2024 Sophia Popov competed in 17 tournaments and only made four cuts. She last played at the Lotte Championship and tied for 51st place. She missed out on playing at the CME Group Tour Championship but was present on the greens as an announcer.
Nelly Korda records a T5 finish at CME Group Tour Championship
Korda has been incredibly consistent and successful on the LPGA Tour in 2024. She has won seven tournaments this season, with her last victory coming at The Annika.
Most recently, she played at the CME Group Tour Championship and tied for fifth place. At the season concluding LPGA Tour event, Korda started with a round of 72 but she quickly bounced back with a solid 66 on the second day. She shot final rounds of 69 and 66 and tied for fifth place on the final leaderboard.
During a press conference at the tournament, the American golfer opened up about her game and said (via ASAP Sports),
"Last week I played so well and then this week it's like where is the center of the face? I'm happy with the way I fought back; took my chances where I could. You know, where I couldn't, I just played safe. But you definitely have to go really low out here to just be in contention.
"Started out really slow on Thursday and bounced back on Friday and then had another slow one on Saturday."
Korda competed in 16 LPGA Tour events in 2024 and recorded seven wins. She won The Annika, Mizuho Americas Open, T-Mobile Match Play, Ford Championship, FIR Hills Se Ri Pak Championship, and LPGA Drive On Championship.
In addition, she also won the second Major of her career in 2024 at the Chevron Championship.
