Nelly Korda is proving why she is the top-ranked golfer in the world at the 2024 PNC Championship. Despite the event happening in the off-season, Korda is still at her competitive best.

This has allowed her to hit some outstanding shots. Such as an approach shot she hit from the sand that was called "the shot of the championship" by the commentators on the Golf Channel broadcast.

Korda's ball was in a sand hazard about 100 yards from the 14th pin. She executed her shot with one of her woods with such quality that it carried the ball to within 10 feet of the hole.

In describing this play by Nelly Korda, the broadcaster put it this way:

"Oh my god... Be good... Be really good...! Oh wow...! That is unbelievable...! That so far is the shot of the championship." [0:03 - 0:16]

Nelly Korda is playing in the PNC Championship with her father Petr Korda. In the first round, Team Korda had one eagle and seven birdies with no bogeys to finish in a tie for ninth place at 9-under.

Korda is set to conclude her 2024 in which she won seven tournaments, including five in a row (one major). During the season, she was also named LPGA Tour Player of the Year and won the Rolex Annika Major Award.

The 2024 PNC Championship is the fourth edition of the event for Nelly Korda, who was first invited in 2021, the same year she won her first major championship. She has always played with her father Petr Korda.

On their debut, Team Korda finished 12th on 17-under, 10 shots behind winners John Daly and his son John II. A year later, Nelly and Petr Korda tied for fifth place with a score of 21-under, five strokes behind the winners, Vijay Singh and his son Qass.

In 2023, Nelly returned to the PNC Championship with her father, finishing in a tie for 13th with a score of 14-under, 11 strokes behind winners Bernhard Langer and his son Jason.

Korda is just the second professional women's golfer to play at the PNC Championship, joining Annika Sorenstam, who led the way in 2019.

However, the participation of female amateurs has been a bit broader. The first female player at the PNC Championship field was Gretchen Zoeller, who played with her father, Fuzzy Zoeller, in 2005.

Five-time tournament winner Bernhard Langer also played with his daughter Christina in 2013. In 2024, college golfer Izzi Stricker will play with her father, Steve Stricker.
