Nelly Korda opened up about her struggles with migraines during the 2024 Solheim Cup. The biennial tournament was held from September 13 to 15 at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia.
The World No. 1 is now competing at the 2024 Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican, and the first round concluded on Thursday, November 14. In the post-round press conference, Korda was asked if she had struggled with migraines before the Solheim Cup.
In response, Korda shared that she was fortunate enough to not know what migraine was prior to the tournament (via ASAP Sports):
"I just wasn't sure what was kind of going on. I never thought it could have been an injury. I just thought maybe with everything, all the stress that I went through during the year, that like my body was kind of in overdrive in a sense. So I was just trying to sleep as much as possible. Yeah, sometimes your body gives you signs, right? It's smart. I need to listen to it a little bit more," she said.
When asked about the last time she had a migraine, Korda said:
"Been a while, yeah. The migraine I had at Solheim, I've not had one like that since."
Nelly Korda also said that she had migraine on the practice day, likely on Tuesday, which was the photo day at the Solheim Cup. The USA won the Solheim Cup by 15.5- 12.5, with Korda contributing to three important points for the team.
How did Nelly Korda perform in the first round of 2024 ANNIKA?
Nelly Korda scored 4-under 66 in the first round of 2024 Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican. On the front nine, she scored two birdies on the 2nd and 7th holes. On the back nine, she scored four birdies on the 14th, 15th, 17th and 18th holes against two bogeys on the 12th and 13th holes.
Last month, Nelly Korda withdrew from two LPGA tournaments due to a neck injury. In the post-round press conference, she was asked about the round coming from the injury. She said (via ASAP Sports):
"Yeah, I mean, whenever I go through these things I'm just kind of grateful to be out here playing. Didn't really know what to expect. Was definitely a little nervous on the first couple holes, just not knowing what to expect of my game because I have not been playing too much," Korda said.
"You know, under pressure it is very different from when you just kind of go out on a cart by yourself and you kind of just play a round. But pretty happy with the way I played. Hit a couple loose shots in the middle of the round, but other than that, I mean, that's something that I can work on," she added.
Jiwon Jeon and Charley Hull are tied at the top of the leaderboard with a score of -6. Gemma Dryburgh and Mi Hyang Lee are tied for third with a score of -5.
The winner of the tournament will take home $487,500 from a prize purse of $3.25 million.
