LIV Golf Iron Heads GC team captain Kevin Na recently gave an interview in which he called for an expedited path for players in the breakaway league to qualify for major championships. Na went so far as to suggest that all winners and the top 16 players on the circuit should receive exemptions to these events.

Na made these comments to Golf Monthly. Fans have mostly responded by mocking his words.

One X (formerly Twitter) user posted the following:

"Nice try Kevin"

Another fan posted the following:

"Talor Gooch 2.0"

Here are a few other reactions from X:

"Thats a big Na for me," one fan posted.
"Of course. It’s such a wide field played over 4 tough days on tough courses. Oh wait," another user said.
"Should the tournament winners at my local high school get in as well?" another fan wrote.
"Kevin Na still golfs?" another fan reacted.

LIV Golf does not receive world ranking points, so its players have to look for other ways to gain access to the major championships. Some of them seek points on the DP World Tour and the Asian Tour, but generally do not manage to climb to privileged positions in the rankings.

In 2024, many LIV Golf players received exemptions to some of the majors, most notably the PGA Championship. Several former major champions play in LIV Golf and still maintain their chances to play in events in this category, either as past winners or through their OWGR ranking or special invites.

What did Kevin Na say?

During his interview with Golf Monthly, Kevin Na expressed his confidence that LIV Golf players will get exemptions to major championships one way or another in the future. In his opinion, a special criterion will be created for the league that does not take world rankings into account.

This was part of what Kevin Na said:

"I think, eventually, we will have a criteria from our League with a pathway straight to the Major championships, I’m not too concerned about that... Winners should be exempt, and I think you take the top-16 players or so. I think if you have a season and you finish inside the top-16, you should be exempt into all four Majors."

Many LIV Golf players have spoken out on the issue of access to the majors. Talor Gooch went so far as to say in April 2024 that if Rory McIlroy won the Masters Tournament, there would have to be an asterisk on that title because several of the top players in the breakaway league would not be in the field.

Joaquin Niemann recently received a special invitation to the 2025 Masters. Niemann also received a similar invitation in 2024, but he was the only LIV player to receive this treatment from Augusta National Golf Club.

The PGA of America was more generous, inviting seven LIV players to the 2024 PGA Championship.
