Nico Echavarria reflected on his confidence after finishing in second place at the 2025 Sony Open in Hawaii. At the recently concluded PGA Tour event, the Colombian golfer was tied for the lead with Nick Taylor after four rounds but struggled in the playoff and eventually settled for second place.

Although he missed securing his third win on the PGA Tour, Echavarria remained confident in his game following the event, calling himself "one of the best golfers."

"I believe in myself now. I believe that I'm one of the best golfers in the world, and every time I'm close to the lead, I like the way I'm performing," he said.

Echavarria has been playing well in recent years. He won his maiden PGA Tour event at the Puerto Rico Open in 2023 by registering a two-stroke win over Akshay Bhatia. He then won the 2024 Zozo Championship.

Nico Echavarria opens up about his performance at the Sony Open in Hawaii 2025

Nico Echavarria showcased an impressive game during the final round of the Sony Open in Hawaii, where he played a round of 65 and jumped up three spots on the leaderboard to tie with Nick Taylor. He had a slow start on Sunday, January 12 with two back-to-back bogeys on the first two holes, followed by a birdie on the third.

However, he played some excellent shots as the game progressed and made three consecutive birdies on the seventh, eighth, and ninth holes before adding another birdie on the 10th. He carded a birdie and three more birdies on the back nine to finish with a 5-under 65.

With a total of 16 under, he was tied for the lead with Nick Taylor. Even in the playoff, he made a birdie on the first hole, but on the second playoff hole, he settled for a par while Taylor made a birdie to win the event.

During the press conference after the tournament, Echavarria opened up about his performance, saying (via ASAP Sports):

"This course is tricky. The leader never -- I mean, the previous two years I've noticed that the leader doesn't go away with it. It's a course that everyone gets bunched up. I had a number on my head coming into the last round. It was 16-under. After starting bogey-bogey I was pretty far from shooting 16-under. I didn't miss many shots coming down the stretch, and there we are."

Notably, J.J. Spaun and Stephan Jaeger tied for third place while Eric Cole secured the fifth spot on the leaderboard. Keegan Bradley tied for sixth place with Jackson Suber, Adam Schenk, and Patrick Fishburn at 13-under, followed by Harry Hall settling in tenth place with Jesper Svensson, Nick Dunlap, Paul Peterson, Russell Henley, and Lee Hodges.
