On Sunday, September 15, Patton Kizzire claimed the 2024 Procore Championship, his third win on the PGA Tour. This was also his first win since the 2018 Sony Open.
Kizzire entered the Procore Championship's final round with a 54-hole lead, aiming for his first win in over six years. He shot a 2-under 70 to finish at 20-under, beating David Lipsky by a whopping five shots.
Earlier this week, Patton Kizzire revealed that he had recently hired a sports psychologist, who suggested a few things to push him out of his comfort zone. The suggestions included strolling barefoot, looking at the flowers, and hugging trees. The 38-year-old golfer mentioned that he had hugged a tree on the sixteenth tee of Silverado Resort.
"Not joking. I hugged that tree right there," he said, as per Golfweek. "I've hugged one tree in my life and that was this morning."
The three-time PGA Tour champion described his win as "pretty sweet" and "special." Reflecting on his performance, he added that he was trying not to get ahead of himself in the final round.
"I knew that it would be difficult not to get ahead of myself with a four-shot lead heading into today," he was quotes as saying via Teescripts. "I wrote down in my yardage book, 'I am here, I am now.' I kept going back to that and that helped me be disciplined and stay present. That was something that just kept going back to and that's what really helped me come out on top," he added.
