As Mike McCarthy stepped down as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, fans anxiously awaited news about the team’s new head coach. Rumors suggest that Brian Schottenheimer could be the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. According to DraftKings, he has become one of the favorites in the hiring cycle, with odds at -250.

On January 20, Kevin Gray Jr. shared a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, expressing his opinion on the reports surrounding Schottenheimer taking over as the head coach for the Cowboys. He wrote:

"Brian Schottenheimer would be a completely uninspired hiring by the Dallas Cowboys and hiring the guy that was brought in by Mike McCarthy wild; might as well have kept McCarthy if you wanted his people around in the building #DallasCowboys."

In the comments section of his post, fans shared their opinions, making their stances clear on the reports. Some fans reflected their disappointment with reports of Schottenheimer becoming the Cowboys’ head coach.

"Ok, Moore or even Schottenheimer, it’ll be the return to the Dave Campo years, my gawd our team is in trouble," a fan wrote.
"Yes but he would be cheap," another fan said.
"If they would make this hire without even requesting an interview for Ben Johnson, Aaron Glenn, or even Kliff then you know Jerry still has no interest in putting the best product on the field," another fan wrote.
"It's such a Cowboy move if they did do that... it's comical at this point smh," one more fan added.

Meanwhile, others dismissed the reports as a "backup plan."

"Doubt that actually happens. I think they’re just laying ground for the backup plan to the backup plan. Like you said it makes no sense to fire McCarthy and keep all his guys around," a fan wrote.

Some fans stated there was no chance of Schottenheimer becoming the head coach, while one fan simply called the reported hiring “boring.”

"There’s zero chance," a fan commented.
"That hire would be boring AF," one more fan added.

Who could be the next Dallas Cowboys head coach?

The hiring cycle for the head coach position for the Dallas Cowboys is in full swing. The team has interviewed three candidates so far, who could potentially take over the role.

The Cowboys interviewed Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore on January 17, followed by an interview with former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh on January 18. On January 20, they interviewed Leslie Frazier, the former head coach of the Minnesota Vikings.

In addition, the team is keeping an eye on Deion Sanders and Jason Witten. Recently, rumors have been swirling about Brian Schottenheimer, who is currently the offensive coordinator for the Cowboys.

Schottenheimer has been with Jerry Jones’ team since 2022. He was the coaching analyst in 2022 and has been serving as the offensive coordinator since 2023. He previously worked as the quarterbacks coach for the Washington Redskins in 2001, the San Diego Chargers from 2002-2005, and the Indianapolis Colts from 2016-2017.
