Padraig Harrington admits to ‘struggling’ at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship

Padraig Harrington is currently competing at the 2024 Charles Schwab Cup Championship. He admitted that he struggled in the first round of the tournament at Phoenix Country Club in Phoenix, Arizona.

Harrington scored 1-under 70 in the first round. On the front nine, he scored two birdies on the 1st and 6th holes against a bogey on par-4 fifth. On the back nine, he scored a birdie on the 16th hole against a bogey on the 13th.

The three-time Major winner took to X and shared that he was out of position in the round and would need to improve in the remaining three rounds. He wrote:

"Struggled a bit today. I shot 70 for 1 under, T11, 6 shots back. I was slightly out of position a lot and I was very tentative on the greens. I’ll need to improve over the next three days to catch up. @ChampionsTour @SchwabCupFinale"

Stewart Cink is currently at the top of the standings at the tournament. He scored 7-under 64 in the first round. Talking about his first round, Cink said (via NBC Sports):

"I just kept plugging. I wasn't on with every part of my game, but I was my attitude was great, stayed in the present and just been working really hard on not getting too emotionally invested in the rounds and just letting it unfold."

Charles Schwab Cup Championship is the final event of the 2024 PGA Tour Champions. Ernie Els has remained on the top of the Charles Schwab Cup Points List for the majority of the year. He is tied for sixth in the tournament.
