Former golfer Paige Spiranac defended Justin Thomas and other PGA Tour players after a fan claimed that current golfers lacked personality. The fan's comment came in response to Thomas' letter to PGA Tour players about increasing golf viewership.
TV ratings of golf tournaments have been dropping year on year. While several causes and reasons can be argued as to why that is happening, Thomas felt providing "more access and insight" to fans during events would generate interest among them.
However, several fans didn't agree with the ace golfer's solutions, with one fan claiming that the current crop of golfers had no personality compared to past players.
"Unfortunately most of these guys have zero personalities or fire. Where the Chi Chis, Fuzzys, Trevino, Palmers of the world. These guys would mix it up with fans and still rip your head off,"
Former golfer and social media personality Paige Spiranac came to Thomas and the PGA Tour players' defense. Calling them "pretty funny", Spiranac further asserted that the golfers may be presenting fewer opinions now due to the possibility of online trolling.
"I disagree. They do have personalities and are pretty funny! I don’t want to speak for them but I’m sure they might feel that they will be ripped apart online if they say or do the wrong thing. Sometimes it’s just easier to say nothing," Spiranac wrote.
One of the suggestions Justin Thomas presented in his letter was in support of mid-round interviews. Although initially wary of the practice, he was now on board with the idea, highlighting his pleasant experience of such interviews in the recent events he participated in.
Despite her early retirement from the sport, Paige Spiranac frequently takes to the greens and offers her fans golf-related tips, besides giving her take on various other topics.
