The Masters has always been an event that has been home to some of the most memorable moments in the history of golf. This is a tournament where rookies go on to become legends and old horses redeem themselves.
Every golf fan has his/her own favorite moments at Augusta National and Paige Spiranac is no different than any of us. The famous former golfer-turned-influencer recently shared a video on Twitter where she mentioned five of her favorite iconic moments at Augusta National.
A look at Spiranac's five favorite moments in Masters history
5) Greg Norman's meltdown in the 1996 Masters
Spiranac said:
"At number five, we have Greg Norman's meltdown in 1996, where he lost by five to Nick Faldo after having a six-shot lead."
Norman was leading by six shots ahead of the final round at The Masters and he maintained a four-shot lead through seven holes on Sunday. However, he went on to lose five strokes to par over the next five holes.
With some poor strokeplay, Norman ended the day at 78, the worst performance of the day. It is also known as the greatest collapse in Masters history.
4) Tiger Woods' first Masters win in 1997
Tiger has had many iconic moments at the Augusta National and his first win was also iconic. The 1997 Masters was Tiger's first-ever major triumph, which he achieved at just 21 years of age, becoming the youngest winner at Augusta National. He also became the first winner of African or Asian descent.
"Number four goes to 21-year-old Tiger Woods winning by 12 in the 1997 Masters," said Spiranac.
The 12-stroke margin is still the record for the biggest margin for a Major victory.
3) Tiger Woods chipping in at the 16th hole in 2005
2005 was Tiger's fourth win at Augusta National. Although the win was special, there was one moment that became quite popular and later also featured in a Nike advertisement.
On the 16th hole of the final day, Tiger executed a chip shot. The ball briefly paused near the hole before dropping in, and this particular shot has been broadcast multiple times on television and has garnered millions of views on YouTube.
2) Jack Nicklaus's 1986 Masters win
This was Jack Nicklaus' 18th major win, the most in the history of golf. He finished with a total score of 9-under 279, shooting an impressive final round of 7-under 65 for a remarkable one-stroke victory.
At the age of 46, Nicklaus became the oldest winner of The Masters and the second-oldest winner of any major championship behind Julius Boros until Phil Mickelson surpassed them both by winning the 2021 PGA Championship.
1) Tiger Woods' redemption in 2019
This was one of the most remarkable victories of Tiger's career. Prior to 2019, 2008 was the last time Tiger achieved any success in a major tournament and 2005 was the last year the ace golfer won the green jacket.
During the final day, he was behind Francesco Molinari for the majority of the round. Nonetheless, consecutive birdies on the 15th and 16th holes, followed by a par on the 17th, provided the legendary golfer with some relief.
Eventually, Tiger Woods concluded the four rounds at 13-under besting Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Xander Schauffele by a stroke.
Paige Spiranac's Prediction for 2023 Masters
Paige Spiranac believes Rory McIlroy's bid for the career grand slam will end at the 87th Masters. Earlier this year, she predicted that the Northern Irishman will be wearing the green jacket on Sunday, April 9.
She said:
"He is ready for the test and I think that Rory is going to win The Masters this year."
