Paige Spiranac explains golf course grass and hazards
Paige Spiranac, a popular golf influencer and former professional player, talked about the basic elements of a golf course including different grasses and hazards in a YouTube video last month. She discussed the fairway cut, the shorter grass on the golf course, and the perils of the ball landing in the rough:
"From the fairway cut, which is shorter, you have rough, which is longer, and so it's a penalty. So when your ball lands in the rough, it tends to settle down and it's really hard to get the club head onto the ball because you have rough that interferes with your club head and the golf ball, and so it's unpredictable on how it flies out."
Spiranac further talked about the putting green, the shortest grass on the golf course. She said that if the grass was longer in the putting green, the ball would hop around and golfers would struggle to make the ball go into the hole. The 31-year-old golf influencer also explained the hazards that make golf courses challenging.
"So you have bunkers, which again are those sand filled holes. You have water, which we call a water hazard. Then you have OB, which is usually houses or places that they just don't want you to hit into, and your ball is gone," Paige Spiranac said.
Spiranac posted the video under a series called "The Beginner's Guide to Starting Golf" on her official YouTube channel. In the series, she has addressed the clothing on golf courses, the four clubs needed by beginners, tips about driving ranges, and carrying a golf bag.
Spiranac's YouTube channel has over 434k subscribers. She has posted course vlogs and winter golf tips and on another popular golf series "Golf Instruction from Paige Spiranac". She has also had friendly challenges with LIV Golfer Bryson DeChambeau, PGA Tour veteran John Daly, and PGA Tour player Wyndham Clark.
