Paige Spiranac started her influencer career out of “necessity” amid financial struggles

In a candid moment on her YouTube channel, Paige Spiranac opened up about the unexpected way she launched her career as a golf influencer. During her video titled Spilling 2025 Tea Goals & Gossip, the social media star shared a story of how necessity and timing pushed her into the career.

Faced with financial struggles and limited resources, Spiranac saw an opportunity to collaborate with brands that offered her sponsorships and golf equipment in exchange for promotions online. This came about shortly after a viral article of her on Total Frat Move, a college website, following a victory at the 2015 Colorado Match Play Tournament.

She said during the video (via YouTube 5:14 - 6:50):

"There was no golf influencers [at the time] and I didn't know what that was. That wasn't a career. So all of this really started out of necessity. I wanted to play golf. I had no money and these companies were reaching out and saying, 'Hey if you do some social promotion or if you help us on the media side, we'll give you golf clubs or we'll give you this or we'll give you that.' And I was like I need it, I have no money. I have nothing like I'll do it."

After accepting a few promotional requests from brands and media outlets, Spiranac earned herself an invite to a European Tour (now known as the DP World Tour) in Dubai. Despite receiving exciting opportunities, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model felt over-stimulated and anxious upon dealing with the newfound attention from social media.

She said (via YouTube 6:50 - 7:23)

"I was in the fetal position and I was sobbing uncontrollably when all of this was happening because I've talked about this before but I'm a very introverted person. And for all of this to be happening I was highly over-stimulated. It was very overwhelming. I had no media training. I had no idea what was going on... This was not a normal thing back then in 2015 in sports and especially in golf so I felt very alone and confused by all of it."

Paige Spiranac's advice on growing a brand

In an exclusive interview with FOX Business in 2024, Paige Spiranac offered her fans some tips to growing a successful brand image. With over four million followers on Instagram, she stated that one must reply to all communication from any company as there are several opportunities out there in the world.

The YouTuber followed it up by claiming that saying yes to different opportunities could change your career. She said (via Outkick):

"Second, say yes to a lot of different opportunities. That’s something that I have done throughout my career, where there are times when you’re scared, and you don’t feel like you’re capable, and there is imposter syndrome, and everything is [telling] you, ‘No, don’t do it, don’t do it, don’t do it.’ But the best thing to do is to do it. Not everything you say yes to is going to be a success."

To end, Spiranac stated that she's learnt more lessons from her failures than from her successes. She emphasized on the need to build grit and confidence to be able to thrive among social media's harsh critics.
