According to Golf.com, the PGA of America is charging $350 to provide volunteer uniforms, food, drawstring bags, commemorative pins, and tournament credentials
#UPDATE — The PGA of America is charging volunteers $350 to work at the 2025 Ryder Cup, per Golf.com. That price is higher than at any other major championship and includes, Volunteer uniform, Drawstring bag, Commemorative pin, Food (during shifts only), Tournament credential What are your thoughts on this?
After taxes and credit card processing fees, the charges will reportedly go up to $392, around $80 more than the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow and around $100 more than the 2025 US Open.
The PGA of America has defended the higher price for the 2025 Ryder Cup, with plenty of factors coming into play. The Ryder Cup director, Bryan Karns, told GOLF that the pricing was done to market standards.
"The general price is indicative of A) this market, B) where we position ourselves, where we feel like we are [in the greater sports landscape], and then C) the demand. I think when you get into a situation where the demand is so high, you want to do your best to price it so you don’t create this massively inflated secondary market." Karns said.
Volunteers are a crucial part of any golf tournament as they help to keep security and organizational costs low. They assist the organizers in various manners like managing the crowd, on-course security, ball spotting, etc.
Hence, charging a hefty price from volunteers is a double-edged sword as it may pose a danger of low participation. Earlier, the PGA of America had shared the ticket prices for the biennial event, which was $750.
