Fans on social media have reacted to Rory McIlroy's recent update on the ongoing negotiations between the PGA Tour and the PIF. While it's been over a year since PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan announced the merger between the two circuits, the deal has faced multiple delays, with talks continuing without a finalized agreement.
Amidst the uncertainty, McIlroy provided an exciting update, suggesting that the deal could be finalized "before the year's end." Nuclr Golf shared McIlroy's comments on its X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:
"#NEW: Rory McIlroy suggests that a deal could be reached “before year’s end” and acknowledged the complicated nature of it. “There’s no better place than the home of golf to try and get everyone together and talking”, McIlroy said from St. Andrews.@TrackingRory."
However, fans have mixed reactions to it. Some expressed excitement about the update in the comments section, while others expressed frustration over the prolonged negotiations.
"The PGA simp," a fan wrote.
"Get the damn deal done," another fan commented.
A few even suggested that the focus should remain on their respective circuits instead.
"They need to forget about LIV we all have," one more fan wrote.
"Hopefully the justice department steps in and steps on any “deal” that that group of grifters attempts to reach," another fan jotted.

Rory McIlroy to tee off with PIF Governor amidst ongoing merger talks at Alfred Dunhill Links Championship
Rory McIlroy is set to tee off at this week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland. For the event, players will team up with friends or relatives, with play taking place across three iconic golf courses: The Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns.
McIlroy will be joined by his father, Gerry, on the greens this week. Notably, they will tee off alongside PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan, who will be paired with LIV golfer Dean Burmester. The two groups will play together at The Old Course during the third round on Saturday, October 5. They will tee time of 11:23 a.m. local time.
Interestingly, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan will also compete in the tournament and will team up with Billy Horschel. For the first round of the tournament on Thursday, October 3, Monahan and Horschel will play alongside Al-Rumayyan and Burmester at Carnoustie, teeing off at 9 a.m. local time.
Speaking about the PGA Tour Commissioner and PIF Governor playing together, McIlroy said (via BBC):
"There’s no better place than the home of golf to try and get everyone together and talking. I think it’s a great thing and good sign that Jay and Yasir are going to play together. And obviously you’ve got quite a big contingent over from LIV that are playing in this event."
The 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is a four-day event, concluding with the final round on Sunday, October 6.
