Day 1 of the 2023 Waste Management Phoenix Open ended with two Canadians in the lead. Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin surprised many as they shared the top spot on Thursday at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona. They beat the likes of Xander Schauffele, Jason Day, and Jim Herman to take the lead.
The first full-field designated event of the 2023 season, the WM Phoenix Open started off with a bang. The $20 million purse event teed off with a star-studded field, which featured the likes of World No. 1 Rory McIlroy, No. 2 Scottie Scheffler, and No. 3 Jon Rahm, among others. All the big names, however, seem to be struggling on the Arizona field.
It is pertinent to note that play was delayed on Thursday due to frost. Following this, the first round was suspended due to darkness at 8:07 pm ET. Now, the second round is currently expected to start at around 9:15 am at Hole 1. It’ll be interesting to see if the two Canadian golfers in the lead can stay on top of the stacked 132-player field on Day 2.
