Golf content creation has become a big part of the sport's growth, and the PGA Tour is seemingly acknowledging that with their latest endeavor: the Creator Classic. Social media brands like Good Good and Dude Perfect have been huge for the sport's reach to a younger audience, and the tour is starting a Creator Classic that will allow these content creators to compete with one another.
NUCLR GOLF reported on X, formerly known as Twitter:
"PGA TOUR announces that ‘The Creator Classic’ will take place at 4 PM on Wednesday of TOUR Championship week at East Lake. Early commitments include Dude Perfect, the Bryan Bros, Fat Perez and Good Good. The event will be live streamed on ESPN+, Peacock and YouTube. Foursomes TBA."
The event won't just be for content creators, though, as it is set to be live-streamed on several different outlets. It will be something for the golf world to behold. So far, the aforementioned Dude Perfect and Good Good are confirmed to participate, alongside the Bryan Bros and Fat Perez. It is very possible that other brands/creators will commit to play soon.
The Tour Championship week is August 28 through September 1 this year. During the middle of that, while PGA Tour players are competing for one of golf's top prizes, content creators will get a taste of the competition as well.
Golf executives discuss Creator Classic
The Creator Classic is a huge undertaking for golf. For the first time, the people who promote the sport so much on social media will be directly involved with the PGA Tour and will get to compete against one another on a heightened stage.
Founder and president of Pro Shop, part of the sponsorship for this event, Chad Mumm said via the PGA Tour:
"Golf is in the middle of an explosion in popularity and, for many young people, some of the biggest stars have emerged on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. The Creator Classic will bring the brightest of these new stars to the biggest stage in golf, giving them a chance to compete in a real PGA TOUR environment in front of fans both on site and all over the world."
He said that these creators, with their millions of followers, will combine with the Tour's "unparalleled" competitive atmosphere to deliver an event unlike any other in golf.
Chris Wandell, PGA Tour senior VP of media, said:
“The PGA TOUR is proud to partner with Pro Shop and these popular golf content creators for an exciting new concept. We look forward to bringing the fans of these social media stars closer to all the PGA TOUR has to offer, and what better place to debut this competition than at the culminating event of the FedExCup Playoffs.”
Several of the world's biggest content creators will all be in one place at the end of next month.
