PGA Tour caddie Aaron Flener has apologized to Scottie Scheffler on behalf of his hometown over World No.1’s arrest in May. Scottie was arrested as he was trying to get to Valhalla before the second round of the 2024 PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.
Now, PGA Tour caddie Aaron Flener, who hails from Kentucky, has apologized to Scottie over the arrest incident. In a recent episode of "GOLF's Subpar" podcast with FleneColt Knost and Drew Stoltz, Flener wore a shirt with Scottie's picture on it and it had "Free" written on it. He was asked if Scottie had seen him wearing the shirt. He said:
"He has not. This is actually the first time I've ever put it on. So don't know if he watches your show. But Scottie, I just want you to know that I'm sorry for what my home state did to you and I fully support you," he said (17:53-18:05).
Flener hails from Glasgow, Kentucky, and attended TK High School. He went to Lipscomb University and played collegiate golf with their golf team from 2001 to 2004. He has caddied for several notable PGA Tour golfers like Kent Bulle and Stephen Jaeger. He is currently on the bag with JT Poston.
In May, Scottie Scheffler faced four charges which included assaulting a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving, and and failing to obey traffic signals from traffic officers. He was released before the tee time of the second round of the second Major of the year. The criminal charges against the golfer were dropped in late May.
